My cousin told me once that she, "admired my ability to put an outfit together.” I told her I just go to my closet pull out and put on the pieces that I want to wear.
For me, it’s not about an OUTFIT per se.
When I pick out something to wear it is always about the individual piece I want to wear in that moment. There is a difference between wanting to wear a piece and just wearing a piece because it “matches” the one thing that you just picked out.
If I wake up and want to wear my favorite beaded vintage T-shirt then I go for it. The next thought in my brain is NOT what “matches.” I go for the next piece that I WANT to wear.
I’ll admit that there have been many times in my life that people just stare at what I am wearing. LOL! Most likely because I am not into “matching.”
I am definitely not a, “matchy-matchy” kind of girl, as my sister/friend Sharon would say. I don’t even wear the same color polish on my hands and toes. I literally wear four different colors, two if I only paint my toes.
Often times my OOTD ends up being a pattern on pattern moment because of the way I get dressed. A juxtaposition of stripes with flowers, plaid and paisley, or some geometric combination of sorts.
Who doesn’t live for a good patten on patten moment?
I love to mix patterns, prints, and textures, for me it just feels right…mostly because I am wearing the pieces that I love.
Whether my pieces “match” or not, and they always do in my head, I feel good wearing them. Honestly, that’s all that really matters.
For me, fashion is about expression, it allows you to be whoever you want to be whenever you feel like being.
I challenge you to look in your closets, pull out and wear only the pieces that you love...you know those favorites. Don't save them for that special occasion because everyday IS a special occasion.
I hope some of those favorites happen to be a pattern!
